How to spot a fake booking site
- Read the address, not the page. Scam sites copy logos, photos and colours perfectly. Only the web address tells the truth.
- Watch for extra words and hyphens. A real site like
heliyatra.irctc.co.inbecomesirctc-heliyatra.comorkedarnath-heli-booking.inon a fake. - Read the address from right to left. In
heliyatra.irctc.co.in.booking-now.com, the real website isbooking-now.com. Everything before it is decoration. - Look-alike letters. Some fakes use letters from other alphabets that look identical, or swap
rnformand0foro. - Ads and search results can be fake. Scammers pay for ads that appear above the real site. Type the official address yourself or use our official links.
- "Agents" on WhatsApp, Facebook or phone. If a booking can only be made on an official site, nobody can sell you a "confirmed" ticket on chat.
- Payment red flags. Paying to a personal UPI ID, a QR code sent on chat, or a bank transfer to an individual is a warning sign.
- Never share an OTP. Real booking offices will never call to ask for it.
- Shortened links hide the destination. Don't book through bit.ly-style links.
If you think you've been scammed
- Call your bank immediately to try to stop the payment.
- Report it to India's national cybercrime portal and helpline. [VERIFY: cybercrime portal URL and helpline number]
- Keep screenshots of the website, chats and payment receipts.
Our checker can only compare a link against the official domains we list. "Unknown" doesn't mean safe or unsafe. When in doubt, don't pay.
